• NAPA Sheldon G. Hayes Award

    NAPA's Sheldon G. Hayes Award has been bestowed annually since 1971 for a highway pavement exhibiting exemplary quality. Winners and finalists of the award undergo three rounds of rigorous evaluation in order to determine which pavement is the best in the country. This is the greatest honor a paving company can achieve.

  • 2001 - Winner
    Ringgold County Road, Route P46

    Norris Asphalt Paving Co. was honored for the construction of 6.5 miles of Route P46 in Ringgold County in Iowa. The project involved laying approximately 51,700 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) on top of an existing graded county road. The pavement consisted of 10 inches of full depth HMA with a smaller 4 inch overlay section attached.

    Van Buren County, Highway 1

    Once again NAP Co. makes the finalist list for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award which is given each year to the best Hot Mix Asphalt project by the National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA).

  • 2011 - Finalist
    Mahaska County, US 63

    Norris Asphalt Paving Co. and the Iowa Department of Transportation were honored for the widening and resurfacing of 9.1 miles of U.S. 63 in Mahaska County. Norris Asphalt Paving Co. completed the project in less than a year, earning incentives for the road’s smoothness and timely completion.

    Adams County, US 34

    Norris Asphalt Paving Co. was honored for the widening, milling, and overlay of 13 miles of US 34 in Adams and Union Counties, Iowa, from the road’s intersection with Iowa Highway 148 to the western city limits of Creston. Work also included the rehabilitation of full-width rock shoulders.

    Wapello County, US 34

    Norris Asphalt Paving Co. and the Iowa Department of Transportation were named a finalist for Norris Asphalt Paving Co.’s work on U.S. 34 in Wapello County, Iowa. This particular portion runs through a wooded, hilly section of the highway, which the Iowa Department of Transportation rates a Super 2 with long grades and curves.

  • 2015 - Winner
    Montgomery County, US 34

    Norris Asphalt Paving Co. and the Iowa Department of Transportation were named the winner for Norris Asphalt Paving Co.’s work on U.S. 34 in Montgomery and Adams counties. The 15-mile project dealt with many variable widths, numerous turning and climbing lanes, and long material hauls. The project also featured road widening, and an almost 2-mile section of roadway that went from two lanes to four lanes and then back to two lanes. In addition, another Iowa highway, U.S. 71, intersected the middle of the four-lane portion of the project.
